1 Killed as Floods Hit Gaza Hospital, Displace Thousands in Cold Weather

Heavy rains have led to deadly flooding in Gaza, killing one person and inundating a local hospital. The storm also swept away thousands of tents sheltering displaced Palestinians, escalating their suffering amid extreme cold conditions. The humanitarian toll deepens as infrastructure buckles under harsh weather.

Heavy rainfall in Gaza has triggered devastating floods, leading to the death of one person and severe damage across parts of the besieged territory. A hospital in Gaza was flooded, compounding challenges for both medical workers and vulnerable patients inside. The flooding disrupted humanitarian services and caused further strain on already fragile health facilities.

Meanwhile, the relentless downpour swept through displacement sites, wreaking havoc on the makeshift shelters of thousands of Palestinians. As floodwaters surged, tents housing displaced families were violently swept away, leaving countless individuals exposed to the elements. For many, the thin canvas walls of their temporary homes offered little refuge against the sudden natural assault.

The cold added another layer of suffering. With temperatures dropping, those who have already been forced to flee their homes now face deteriorating weather conditions without adequate protection or resources. Children and the elderly are particularly at risk as they grapple with hypothermia and inadequate shelter amid the storm’s aftermath.

From its side, Gaza’s already-strained emergency services struggled to respond to the cascading effects of the flooding. The inundated hospital, surrounded by rising waters, reflected the deepening crisis within key civilian infrastructure. Doctors and nurses attempted to keep operations going under dire conditions, even as water levels increased and electrical issues complicated their efforts.

In addition to loss of life and damage to medical systems, the weather disaster has deepened the suffering of the thousands already displaced. These individuals, already lacking essentials, now stand in muddy and frigid conditions, with many unable to locate or rebuild their scattered shelters. Families describe desperate scenes, trying to salvage soaked belongings and locate relatives in the chaos.

Residents report hearing the sound of collapsing tents and watching the water rise rapidly through streets and camps. Many’s only belongings were swept away, leaving them without food, clothing, or dry ground to rest. Relief efforts have been severely hampered by the scale of the flooding and limited resources at hand.

The situation continues to unfold under extreme cold, exacerbating health concerns and the potential for further casualties. The storm arrived without warning and struck communities with little time to prepare, highlighting the vulnerability of displaced populations facing both natural and man-made hardships.

Authorities have yet to fully assess the extent of the damage. However, the immediate toll is clear—lives lost, basic needs unmet, and already fragile shelters demolished by the unrelenting rain and wind. As Palestinians in Gaza weather another storm, their resilience is tested once more in the face of deepening adversity.
