Amnesty Germany gives 2026 human rights award to children’s lawyer Khaled Quzmar
Ramallah — The Ramallah-based lawyer has defended Palestinian children for nearly 40 years; the prize will be presented in Berlin on 25 November, WAFA reported.
Amnesty International’s German section has chosen Khaled Quzmar, a Ramallah-based lawyer who has spent nearly four decades defending Palestinian children, for its 2026 Human Rights Award. WAFA reported the award on Wednesday.
Amnesty said Quzmar documented violations of children’s rights in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, for UN bodies and international courts, and was summoned by Israeli intelligence in 2021 and threatened with a long prison term. As long-time director general of Defense for Children International - Palestine, he dissolved the organisation in spring 2026 after more than 35 years because of continuing harassment, Amnesty said.
